US 50 Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan

Improving safety, reliability, and access along Highway 50 in the Sacramento region

The US 50 Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan (US 50 CMCP) is a long-range plan that identifies projects to improve congestion, safety, and accessibility along a 58-mile portion of the corridor in the Sacramento region. The plan takes a big picture approach by identifying strategies and improvements for:
  • US 50 highway facilities
  • Sacramento Regional Transit Gold Line
  • The American River Parkway
  • Local roadways and public transit routes
  • Active transportation
  • Intelligent transportation systems (ITS)

About the US 50 CMCP

The planning process was a collaborative effort co-led by SACOG and Caltrans, in partnership with El Dorado Transportation Commission (EDCTC), Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA), local cities and counties, tribal governments, public transit agencies, the 50 Corridor Transportation Management Association (50 TMA), and other partners.

Community members and partners along the corridor - from West Sacramento and Pollock Pines- were also key partners in shaping the plan's vision and recommendations through engagement events throughout the process.

The US 50 CMCP was funded by a Caltrans Strategic Partnership Planning Grant.

The plan identified a strategic list of transportation projects that improve conditions along the US 50 Corridor. These projects are now eligible to compete for state and federal funding opportunities, including the SB-1 Solutions for Congested Corridors Program (SCCP).

The plan supports the Caltrans Strategic Plan and the SACOG Blueprint, working to build and maintain a safe, equitable, and resilient multimodal transportation system. This will be accomplished by improving the corridor travel experience, and reducing Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT). The US 50 CMCP supports local agencies in building active transportation, public transit, and local roadway improvements that support regional and statewide goals.
